Our Role
Our mission is to support, help coordinate and expand the vital WA-Japan trade. Japan is one of Western Australia’s most important trade partners, accounting for 39 per cent of the state’s total exports. To achieve this, we provide a key link to Japanese investment into Western Australia, and assist Western Australian businesses to access and grow in the Japan market.
In the resources sector, we have helped generate new business connections and investments in the mineral, agricultural and manufacturing sectors. In addition, we have assisted in facilitating significant Japanese investment in agricultural processing, plantation and tourism projects in the state. Both the State and Federal governments welcome direct investment by Japanese firms.
For Western Australian exporters, we provide assistance in finding markets for their products and services in Japan. Our key focus is on assisting Small to Medium Business Enterprises (SMEs) overcome hurdles to enter the market, by providing assistance for new market entrants.
In addition, our Kobe Office is also responsible for maintaining close economic and cultural links with the Hyogo Prefectural Government, the sister state of WA, and the Kansai Region in general.
To facilitate our role, our offices have direct links to all departments of the WA Government, the Australian Embassy and regional consulates in Japan. Both offices report to the Official Representative in Tokyo and are accountable to the Premier of Western Australia and the Director General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
