Food lovers from around Australia and the world have a bigger, better IGA Taste Great Southern food and wine festival to enjoy thanks to a funding increase from the State Government.

The Festival which runs February 13 to March 31, 2013 features more than 40 food focused events that include a beach barbecue at Denmark; a lunch celebrating the region’s multicultural diversity; a fine food and whisky-matching; long table dinner with Iron Chef Australia winner Herb Faust in Albany; as well as a wine tasting, oyster festival, kids cooking classes and a movie night.

The six-week long festival recognises local expertise and encourages WA residents and international visitors alike to explore the Great Southern region.

Tourism Minister Kim Hames said IGA Taste Great Southern received the funding boost through Eventscorp’s Royalties for Regions – Regional Events Program to increase the number of attractions, host international journalists to build the profile of WA’s Great Southern region and produce, and attract celebrity chefs and personalities.

Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls adds: “It is important we, as a community, support these events and acknowledge the local talent and ingenuity that exists in our own backyard. Through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions initiative, these events demonstrate the opportunities and lifestyle options of our regional communities.”
