International golf will return to Perth in February 2017, in a world-first format that will showcase the changing face of Perth and attract millions of dollars in exposure for Western Australia.

World Super 6 Perth, to be held at Lake Karrinyup Country Club, will combine a traditional 54-hole stroke play event on the first three days with a knockout format on the last day, that will see the final 24 players battle it out over six-hole matches. Any ties will be decided by playing the new knockout hole – a purpose-built 90-metre hole which will be constructed at Lake Karrinyup.

Premier and Tourism Minister Colin Barnett said the new format would be more exciting for spectators, both at the event and watching around the world. “This competition will appeal to all golfers, but especially to a younger demographic, and will encourage competitors to play aggressive and attacking golf,” Mr Barnett said.

“Golf is very popular throughout the world, and has a high appeal for many people in some of our top tourism markets, including Singapore, China, Malaysia and the United Kingdom.”

World Super 6 Perth is co-sanctioned by, and will be part of, the PGA Tour of Australasia and the European Tour, and offers full Official World Golf ranking points for competing players. “The tournament will deliver national and international media coverage of WA throughout the four-day broadcast,” the Premier said.

“Last year’s Perth International golf tournament generated about $30 million in international media coverage, showcasing WA to golfers around the world,” Mr Barnett said. “World Super 6 Perth will inject millions into the economy directly through players, support teams and spectators visiting Perth for the tournament.”
