Agriculture and Food Minister Terry Redman has welcomed a record grains harvest for Western Australia. The CBH Group announced in late January that grain receivals had reached 14.7 million tonnes, surpassing the previous record set in 2003-04.

“The State’s grain growers have overcome some enormous challenges to deliver a record grain harvest for the 2011-12 season,” Mr Redman said. “Many growers are recovering from one of their driest seasons in 2010 and in recent months have endured a wet and protracted harvest.”

The grains sector provides significant revenue for the State, worth more than $4.5 billion annually. More than 80 per cent of grain grown in Western Australia is exported, with Japan a major market.
