The Perth International Arts Festival, Western Australia’s premier cultural event and the longest running international arts festival in Australia, has announced its program for the 61st festival, which will run from 7 February to 1 March, and the accompanying film festival which will run from 25 November to 13 April.

Headlining the 2014 program is Veles e Vents, an extraordinary voyage marked by fireworks, music and light presented by one of the world’s foremost outdoor theatre companies, Xarxa Teatre, from Spain, which will be staged as a free event on the banks of the Swan River from 8-10 February, 2014.

Supported by the State Government through Lotterywest and Eventscorp, Veles e Vents promises to be a really spectacular opening event, staged over three nights to provide more options for audiences to enjoy the performance.

The wide-ranging scope of the festival encompasses includes ticketed and free performances of to dance, music and circus performances, interactive, video and photo art installations, and much more.

Perth Festival Artistic Director Jonathan Holloway said: “From dazzling fireworks displays to giant monuments, miniature towns, music, motion, and incredible visual art, the Free and Spectacular Program allows us to see the world in a different light. It is this program of high quality and accessible free events that really what makes the Festival one that belongs to the people of Perth.”
