Premier unveils new-look Cabinet

Premier Colin Barnett has today announced a new-look Cabinet, which will take the Liberal-National Government to the next election. There are three new ministers and three new parliamentary secretaries.

Promoted into Cabinet are: Scarborough MLA Liza Harvey: Minister for Police; Road Safety Murray-Wellington MLA Murray Cowper: Minister for Training and Workforce Development and Corrective Services North Metropolitan Region MLC Michael Mischin: Attorney General Each is a well-credentialed parliamentary secretary with broad experience.

Mr Barnett has made a range of other changes to the cabinet: Peter Collier will become the Minister for Education, and retain Energy and Indigenous Affairs Troy Buswell will become the Treasurer, and retain Transport and Emergency Services Terry Redman will become the Minister for Housing, and retain Agriculture and Food and Forestry.

The Premier also announced the appointment of three new parliamentary secretaries: Riverton MLA Mike Nahan Jandakot MLA Joe Francis Ocean Reef MLA Albert Jacob.

The changes follow Bateman MLA Christian Porter’s decision this month to resign from the Ministry to pursue a career in Federal politics. Deputy Premier Kim Hames will become Leader of the House in the Legislative Assembly.

“This team reflects the talent and depth of the Liberal-National Government,” Mr Barnett said. “I would like to congratulate Liza Harvey, Murray Cowper and Michael Mischin on their elevation to the front bench. All have demonstrated an ability to tap into the needs of their local communities, and those skills will be vital in their new roles.”

The Premier thanked outgoing Ministers Liz Constable and Rob Johnson for their enormous contribution to the State and dedication to the job.“ Liz Constable has played an integral role in this Government, and I thank her for her enormous support,” he said. “As Police Minister, Rob Johnson has been passionate about supporting frontline police and has significantly improved community safety in this State.”

Mr Barnett said the new Ministers would be sworn in by the Lieutenant-Governor on Friday, the other changes would be put in place over the following days.
